Regular readers might recall that John Adams has never been one of my favorite composers. It's not that his music is bad necessarily, just that it never seems to go anywhere.Last season the Met telecast Adams' Doctor Atomic, the story of Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb, staring Gerald Finley. Now, I'm not sure I'd run right out and see it again - Terry Teachout referred to it more as an oratorio than an opera (something I'd like to get into in more detail some day) - but there were some striking moments in it, none more so than Finley's aria to close the first act, "Batter My Heart."
