Epiphany is traditionally observed on January 6. However, since 1969 in Catholic and 1976 in Protestant denominations, the day is celebrated either on January 6 or on the Sunday that falls between January 2 and 8. Similarly, around the same time, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was also adopted in the United States for movable holidays (Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Columbus Day). Such is why the Boston Marathon is no longer held on April 19 and the Indianapolis 500 is no longer on May 30, as they were prior to the rule change.
