Of course, presumably the disabled, those who are on some form of life-support, would fall into that same catetory - they have no "sense of their own existence" either, right? Therefore, what's the big deal? After all, it's not like it's murder or anything...
Now, how widespread is this feeling, you ask? Again from K-Lo, this CNN story: "Study: Newborn euthanasia underreported."
Euthanizing terminally ill newborns, while still very rare, is more common in the Netherlands than was believed when the startling practice was reported a few months ago -- and experts say it also occurs, quietly, in other countries.
Dutch doctors estimate that at least five newborn mercy killings occur for every one reported in that country, which has allowed euthanasia for competent adults since 1985.
Clearly, I need to look for something more lighthearted to write about next...
